Daily selfie at the Musee d’Orsay, a former train station built for the 1900 Paris Exhibition. Converted to a museum in the 1980s.

23 July 22: So…what does “Free Day in Paris” look like? It started with a trip to Le Bon Marche department store…one of the oldest in the world…except much of the store was closed, I think due to HVAC issues. So we were restricted to the food and alcohol sections only. I was able to pick up some souvenirs and we met a gentleman who used to do wine classes in the States, and helped us pick some good inexpensive wines.

Then Tim wanted to check out a McDonald’s (he wants to try out McDonald’s in as many countries as possible) so we got our burgers, fries, and Heinekens for lunch.

Finally, Dave and I spent the afternoon at the Musée d’Orsay, and immersed ourselves in all the Impressionist and Neo-Impressionist art. We were there for about 2.5 hours and saw about half of the offerings…but we made sure to see the stuff that interested us the most. I should have foregone the Louvre in favor of seeing this entire museum, the Louvre was too overwhelming. The boys stayed closer to the apartment.

We will go out to one more nice dinner tonight…tomorrow we head to Berlin!!

Tim contemplating what this store considers “American food” at the Bon Marche gourmet food store.
It’s pretty sad what is considered American gourmet food.
Ordering lunch at McDonald’s on Rue de Rennes.
Loving getting to have Heineken with my McD’s meal!
One of the numerous clocks in the Musee d’Orsay.
Huge collection of Van Gogh!
Georges Seurat painted a number of scenes of Port en Bessin, the town we stayed in during our Normandy visit. Remarkable how much the town still looks that way. I’m thinking a print of this might make a nice souvenir of this trip. Compare this painting to the photo below: a view we had from just west of the town up on a bluff.
A photo we took on 17 July 22. Seurat’s painting is at high tide, ours here is at low tide….
Basking in the Renoir. With Ms. Dagger Eyes regarding me…??
Monet’s studies of a cathedral in Rouen…in various lighting.
Renoir’s “City Dance” and “Country Dance”. Can you tell which is which?
