Daily selfie from the wine class. Tim was included in this, to his delight.

21 July 22: Today was a “Foodie Walking Tour of Paris“. Leo (short for Eleanor) took us through the Les Halles and Montorgueil sections of Paris, including the patisserie that invented the Baba ah Rhum and showing us one of the original restaurants that specialized in escargot.

We tasted meats, cheeses, chocolates, and bread…our tour guide picked up more of those goodies that we liked the most and delivered us to a wine bar where our group got a private wine class…we enjoyed three kinds of wine while eating the foods our tour guide picked up. It was a delightful mid-day tour, and we met a sweet family from Chicago who was wrapping up 3 weeks in Europe.

We were stuffed…and pretty buzzed…by the end.

Subway selfie. The tour started just outside a subway stop. The kids are getting pretty sick of this…
Tasting bread.
That’s Leo in the black.
Since 1832. We discussed the history of escargot in France. Love the snail perched at the top of the sign. The other family called him “Turbo”…we called him “Gary”. ???
Walking down Rue Montorguiel.
Our cheese tasting plate. There was another tour of Americans also tasting cheese in the background and we were very grateful that our group was nice and small (9 of us, probably 25 of them).
A gorgeous chocolate shop. Everything was so beautifully decorated and packaged.
Tim picking out some chocolate.
Patissier Stohrer — home of the “rum baba” or “Baba ah Rhum”.
Pierre, our sommelier, teaching us about the wine grape regions of France. Loved the map so much!
A coffee eclair from Stoher patisserie. It was amazing.
We got to know this family from Chicago. We exchanged our respective tales from our European travels so far…over lots and lots of wine ???
