Greetings and salutations! We’re excited to finally start up the 2022 season with Bojack!
For the 3rd year in a row, we have plans in Colorado, with some great little weekend trips planned. Because we have a big trip to Europe planned in late July/early August, we won’t use Bojack quite as much as we usually do (our goal is 6 trips per year) but we did make reservations for 4 trips through this August.
We are excited about our camping season:
- April 28 – May 1: Peregrine Pines Famcamp, USAF Academy, Colorado. For those with military affiliations, it’s well known that numerous military installations have RV resorts. They’re inexpensive and usually very well maintained. The amenities vary wildly, but some of the resorts are on prime real estate that is exclusively for active duty and retired military members. One that I’d love to visit one day is at Naval Air Station Key West. This weekend will be our first experience using a military RV resort. Since it’s only 10 minutes from our house, it’s an easy way to conduct a de-winterization campout.
- Memorial Day Weekend: John Martin Reservoir State Park, Lake Hasty Campground, near Lamar, Colorado. This is a trip I’ve been wanting to take for a while, although the rest of the family has been reluctant because it’s not in the “cool part of Colorado”. This part is in the far southeastern corner of the state, which looks more like Kansas. There are a couple of interesting historic sites I can’t wait to visit: I’m most excited to get to visit the Amache Japanese Resettlement Camp, which just earned a well-deserved designation as a National Historic Site last month. There is a set of preserved dinosaur tracks at the bottom of a river bed nearby, but the jury’s out as to whether we can actually see them. It’s a long hike, in the plains with no shade. I’m looking forward to a long weekend with both of our sons with us, also, since our oldest will be home from college by then.
- 4th of July Weekend: Buena Vista, Colorado. We thoroughly enjoyed spending July 4th weekend there with family friends last year, so we decided to do it again. This year we’re trying out a new RV resort, it looks amazing!
- August: Mueller State Park. I mentioned the planning efforts for this trip in my last post.
This is a short post, I’ll write up the USAFA Famcamp fully after this weekend. For now, back to some meal planning!
