Bora Bora 2025 Day 5: Private Boat Tour, Photo Session, and Polynesian Dinner Show

We almost didn’t get a selfie yesterday! Dave saved the day at dinnertime.

We had a lazy Wednesday morning by the pool, then took an afternoon private boat tour around the island (in the lagoons between the barrier islands — the “motus” — and the main islands). Our boat captain, Sebastian, gave a lovely history of the island, the culture and traditions, and answered our bazillion questions about the weather, wildlife, and how things like water and electricity work on Bora Bora. We experienced some of the best snorkeling EVER in a lagoon near the northern end of the island.

Finally, we closed out the evening with a Polynesian dinner and dance show back at the resort.

Bora Bora 2025 Day 4: Exploring the Island

A gun emplacement selfie!?! Why yes, we did some hiking to see these big 7 inch guns. A local organization keeps them well maintained, along with some placards explaining French Polynesia’s role in keeping the American and Australian lines of communication across the South Pacific open. You pay the equivalent of $5US per person to make the hike, with that money used to maintain the trails and the guns.

On Tuesday we took a water shuttle across the lagoon, rented a car on the main part of the island, and explored Bora Bora.

Bora Bora 2025 Day 3: Exploring the St. Regis

We spent the day today exploring the amazing things the resort has to offer.

We woke up to a pretty sunrise, visited with the fish who live in the artificial reef under our bungalow, had some shenanigans swimming underneath to get photos thru the glass floor, enjoyed an outdoor couples massage, snorkeled among thousands of the friendliest fish (photos of that later when the light is better), then had a fabulous Asian dinner with a sake pairing.

Bora Bora 2025 Day 2: Arrival at the St. Regis

The famous photo everyone is supposed to take when getting off the boat. That’s Mt Otemanu, on the main island. We are on a barrier island about a mile east of the mountain, one of many that surround the main island.

We made it to our destination at about 3pm today. I can’t get over how stunning it is here…we are at the hotel where they filmed the comedy “Couples Retreat” and it runs 24/7 on one of the TV channels in the rooms.

We are happy to be done with the travel…look forward to a lazy day tomorrow exploring the resort and snorkeling outside our bungalow.

Not long after our arrival, we enjoyed a sunset “champagne sabering” with a champagne toast. A St. Regis Hotel tradition.

Greece 2025: Day 4 – Shipwreck Epanomi…Fail

No selfies in this post. But here’s Dave at a snack truck on the beach.

After a pizza lunch on Sunday, we attempted to drive out to see a shipwreck just offshore along a beach south of Thessaloniki. The beach was called Potamos Epanomis Beach or the Epanomis Sand Dunes.

We never made it to the shipwreck. We failed to consider that in Greece, on Sundays, in the summer, ALL of Eastern Europe goes to the beach and the final two kilometers of the drive would be navigating makeshift parking lots in the soft sand. It was pretty terrible. But we got to play more of the License Plate Game.

Instead we walked around the eastern part of the beach some and made our way back to town. We then bid farewell to Tim and Maddie. We had a very very early flight out of Thessaloniki the next morning. Tim will be home in just a month

Greece 2025: Day 4 – Scenes from Perrotis College Campus

We started Sunday with a walking tour of the Perrotis College campus, which has numerous educational gardens and tree groves. I thoroughly enjoyed walking among the olive, pomegranate, fig, persimmon, and almond trees…and all the grape vines.

Greece 2025 Day 2: Friday Night in Thessaloniki

Friday night in Thessaloniki!

After Mt. Olympus we met up with the kids and they taught us how to navigate the bus system to go towards the city center where we enjoyed a sunset seafood dinner on the waterfront.

Then we took a stroll through Aristotelous Square where we got our dessert — everything in the bakery was so beautiful and looked so delicious it was tough to decide what to get. Dave and I chose walnut baklava.
