22 July 22: I’m at the mall attached to the Louvre, sipping a cappuccino, processing everything I got to see today. So many thoughts about the 6.5 hours Dave and I spent there (the boys left after about 4 hours). Here are a few:
1.) It’s massive!! The map seems so little and cute, but it’s like Vegas scales here! “Let’s just zip over to see the France Crown Jewels”…1/2 mile later we’re all like “Are we there yet?”
2.) I can’t get over the beauty of the gallery spaces themselves. The architecture, the gilded ceilings, the sun lights! The height to accommodate 15′ tall portraits! They thought of all of this centuries ago!
3.) The boys were particularly interested in the Greek and Egyptian artifacts, much of which was discovered and brought over to Europe in the 19th century. Which Dave dubbed the “help ourselves to all the things” period that was endemic in colonialism. Rows and rows of tombs and sarcophaguses.
A more formal post about the Louvre follows.
