Munich Day 1: We had an early start out of Amsterdam. For some unknown reason, our train got to Düsseldorf 2 minutes after our connection left so we put ourselves on the next ICE train to Munich, which was packed.
We had to wander a little to find unreserved seats (we had reserved seats on the original train). We lucked out and found a couple free seats in a “quiet” compartment for most of the journey.
We got to Munich in time to meet up with our tour group for a welcome dinner in the absolutely massive Augustiner-Keller Biergarten just north of the train station.
For the 2nd leg of our trip, we ended up not having our reserved seats available, so we wandered until we could find a spot. We ended up in a closed compartment, which was quite nice.
This was a huge sign hanging in the train station.
We walked over to the Oktoberfest entrance, but no one was allowed in before noon the following day…unless you worked there. The Augustiner-Keller Biergarten is massive — tables and seats as far as the eye could see…(That’s the head of the Oktoberfest tour guides standing in the foreground, Connor.)
