Like we normally do with flights that land in the morning, we try to power thru staying awake till Central European Time bedtime, which is getting more difficult as we get older.
We are staying in an AirBnB about 1/2 km south of the Amsterdam Centraal train station, built in 1590, right on a canal. It’s small and full of quirks, but will be perfect for us these next few days.
After a stop at a café (not coffee shop) for a pick me up, we spent the afternoon wandering around near our AirBnB. And no, we did not order a Royale with Cheese…
Here we are waiting for the train from Schiphol Airport to Amsterdam Centraal train station. It’s about a 10-15 min trip from the airport to Centraal. Our house was about 500m from Centraal.
You can see Dave standing on the porch waving from the house we stayed in. Built in 1590! We were in a basement apartment.
A mid-afternoon pick-me-up before wandering around some more.
We simply wandered after our coffee break.
De Oude Kerk (the Old Church), which sits in the heart of the De Wallen, the Red Light District. Today it’s a Calvinist church.
The beautiful architecture of the Amsterdam Centraal station…
When not on a canal, most of the streets looked like this.
We had a reservation for a houseboat AirBnB — but the one we had reserved left the AirBnB business (the owner sold the boat) so we ended up in the 1590 house instead. Grateful the host let us know with ample time to pivot our lodging plans.
The view from just outside the front of our house. I could just sit and enjoy this view for hours.
We did not get anything from this McDonald’s, but did check that YES, they have a “Royal with Cheese”. It’s called “Le Royale Cheese”.
