{"id":652,"date":"2011-09-28T18:19:00","date_gmt":"2011-09-28T18:19:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thevollmerfamily.com\/MajorMom\/2011\/09\/florida-discoveries-19-you-cant-grow-hops-in-florida.html"},"modified":"2011-09-28T18:19:00","modified_gmt":"2011-09-28T18:19:00","slug":"florida-discoveries-19-you-cant-grow-hops-in-florida","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevollmerfamily.com\/MajorMom\/2011\/09\/florida-discoveries-19-you-cant-grow-hops-in-florida.html","title":{"rendered":"Florida Discoveries 19: You Can&#8217;t Grow Hops in Florida!!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Many of my more loyal readers know that in Nebraska Dave and I were able to grow hops in our backyard. &nbsp;We had a cool landlord\/homeowner who gave Dave permission to dig up part of our backyard and string up trellises to grow hops (among other fruits and veggies).<\/p>\n<p>In<a href=\"http:\/\/vollmerdp.blogspot.com\/2009\/07\/pumpkin-and-hops-updates.html\">&nbsp;summer 2009 and 2010, we had this EPIC WIN of hops harvest<\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/vollmerdp.blogspot.com\/2009\/07\/pumpkin-and-hops-updates.html\">s<\/a>! &nbsp;I gave away several of our hops rhizomes and tossed a few in a lightweight pot when we moved from Nebraska to Florida. &nbsp;This spring the rhizomes sprouted but without the appropriate humidity and sunlight (the sunlight requirements for ideal growing conditions are at 35-55 degrees latitude), we didn&#8217;t get much at all. &nbsp;This morning I took some pictures of the plant at the most growth it had this year. &nbsp;Here in Florida, all I can hope is that we keep these alive until we get back that far north again. &nbsp;So far, so good.<\/p>\n<table align=\"center\" cellpadding=\"0\" cellspacing=\"0\" class=\"tr-caption-container\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/-pId7SJOeL4I\/ToNZxcRcDOI\/AAAAAAABaCc\/3M8FILmVjIQ\/s1600\/IMG_5623.JPG\" imageanchor=\"1\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" border=\"0\" height=\"480\" src=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/-pId7SJOeL4I\/ToNZxcRcDOI\/AAAAAAABaCc\/3M8FILmVjIQ\/s640\/IMG_5623.JPG\" width=\"640\" \/><\/a><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td class=\"tr-caption\" style=\"text-align: center;\">You can&#8217;t make this stuff up!
