********************************************************************************** A Military wife can be tough to describe.<\/p>\n She is a southern belle, a northeastern mets fan, a California 3rd generation re-cycler, a Pacific Islander.<\/p>\n She is short or tall<\/p>\n a tomboy<\/p>\n a fashion diva<\/p>\n a physician’s assistant<\/p>\n a Republican<\/p>\n a Democrat (yes, even THAT!)<\/p>\n A Military Wife is a career gal<\/p>\n a home-schooler<\/p>\n a scrap-booker<\/p>\n an accomplished cellist<\/p>\n an auto mechanic<\/p>\n What is a MILITARY Wife?<\/p>\n They may look different and each is wonderfully unique<\/p>\n But this they have in common.<\/p>\n lots of moving—<\/p>\n moving, moving, moving far from home<\/p>\n moving two cars, three kids and one dog—-all riding with HER of course<\/p>\n moving sofas to basements because they won’t go in THIS house<\/p>\n moving curtains that won’t fit<\/p>\n moving jobs and certifications and professional development hours<\/p>\n moving away from friends moving toward new friends<\/p>\n moving her most important luggage; her trunkful of memories<\/p>\n often waiting-<\/p>\n waiting, waiting, waiting for housing; waiting for orders; waiting They call her “military dependent”, but she knows better<\/p>\n she can balance a checkbook<\/p>\n handle the yard work<\/p>\n fix a noisy toilet.<\/p>\n She is intimately familiar with drywall anchors, and toggle bolts.<\/p>\n She can file the taxes, sell a house, buy a car, or set up a move, — She welcomes neighbors that don’t welcome her.<\/p>\n Reinvents her career with every PCS; locates a house in the desert, She MAKES them all home.<\/p>\n She is fiercely IN-dependent<\/p>\n Military Wives are somewhat hasty<\/p>\n They leap into decorating, leadership, volunteering, career They don’t have 15 years to get to know people.<\/p>\n Their roots are short but flexible.<\/p>\n They plant annuals for themselves and Military Wives quickly learn to value each other.<\/p>\n They connect over Military Wives have a common bond.<\/p>\n The Military Wife has a husband unlike other husbands his commitment Unreliable guy in town!<\/p>\n His language is foreign<\/p>\n TDY<\/p>\n PCS<\/p>\n OPR<\/p>\n ACC<\/p>\n BDU<\/p>\n And so, a Military Wife is a translator for her family and his.<\/p>\n She is the long-distance link to keep them informed, the glue that Military Wife has her moments—-<\/p>\n She wants to wring his neck, dye his uniform pink, and refuse to But she pulls herself together.<\/p>\n Give her a few days, a travel brochure, a long hot bath, a pledge to And she goes.<\/p>\n She packs.<\/p>\n She moves.<\/p>\n She follows.<\/p>\n Why? How come?<\/p>\n You may think it is because she has lost her mind.<\/p>\n But actually it is because she has lost her heart.<\/p>\n It was stolen from her by a man<\/p>\n who puts duty first<\/p>\n who longs to deploy<\/p>\n who salutes the flag<\/p>\n and whose boots in the doorway remind her that as long as he is her She will remain his Military wife.
