{"id":551,"date":"2011-04-27T23:15:00","date_gmt":"2011-04-27T23:15:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thevollmerfamily.com\/MajorMom\/2011\/04\/checking-out-a-new-food-fad-mccormicks-recipe-inspirations.html"},"modified":"2011-04-27T23:15:00","modified_gmt":"2011-04-27T23:15:00","slug":"checking-out-a-new-food-fad-mccormicks-recipe-inspirations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/thevollmerfamily.com\/MajorMom\/2011\/04\/checking-out-a-new-food-fad-mccormicks-recipe-inspirations.html","title":{"rendered":"Checking Out a New Food Fad: McCormick&#8217;s &quot;Recipe Inspirations&quot;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tonight I&#8217;m making chicken tikka masala for dinner. &nbsp;I never thought in a million years I&#8217;d be cooking homemade Indian food, but here I am!<\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t keep a ton of fancy spices on hand, they tend to expire before I use it all up. &nbsp;But for the past few months I&#8217;d been seeing these <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mccormick.com\/Products\/Recipe-Inspirations.aspx\">McCormick&#8217;s Recipe Inspirations<\/a> at our local grocery stores and I got to thinking&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Yes, I can smell the smoke!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>GROAN. &nbsp;Anyway, in my often-difficult attempt to cook as much as I can from scratch, I pondered this product and decided this can&#8217;t be too bad. &nbsp;I picked up a card this week at our local commissary. &nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mccormick.com\/Products\/Herbs-and-Spices\/Recipe%20Inspirations\/Chicken-Tikka-Masala.aspx\">Chicken Tikka Masala<\/a>. &nbsp;At only $1.08 (that&#8217;s the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.commissaries.com\/\">commissary<\/a> price, it&#8217;s probably at least double that at your local grocery stores) it already presented more appeal than a <a href=\"http:\/\/tryitalltraderjoes.wordpress.com\/2008\/01\/07\/masala-simmer-sauce-trader-joes-brand\/\">jarred simmer sauce<\/a> or one of those <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mariecallendersmeals.com\/#\/family-meals\">frozen all-in-one meal kits.<\/a>**<\/p>\n<p>So here&#8217;s what we have&#8230;it&#8217;s a card filled with little bubbles of spices. &nbsp;Just enough for the recipe you&#8217;re making, pre-measured for your convenience.<\/p>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-tE8U67m5GFE\/TbiAk4QxWkI\/AAAAAAABVFo\/7uV-qcH7wGc\/s1600\/IMG_4586.jpg\" imageanchor=\"1\" style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" border=\"0\" height=\"400\" src=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-tE8U67m5GFE\/TbiAk4QxWkI\/AAAAAAABVFo\/7uV-qcH7wGc\/s400\/IMG_4586.jpg\" width=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>Flip the card over, and you have a listing of ingredients on the card, and the recipe. &nbsp;So while you&#8217;re on the same shopping trip you can pick up the rest of the ingredients you need.<\/p>\n<table align=\"center\" cellpadding=\"0\" cellspacing=\"0\" class=\"tr-caption-container\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" border=\"0\" height=\"300\" src=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-LzlmOWbvJ4U\/TbiAmnZa1_I\/AAAAAAABVFs\/lIg9-z7Ev78\/s400\/IMG_4587.JPG\" width=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td class=\"tr-caption\" style=\"text-align: center;\">Truth be told, I had everything in this card except for the &#8220;garam masala&#8221;&#8230;if we like this, I can pick up some garam masala at our local Asian grocery store, hold onto the card and make this in the future&#8230;<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>Here&#8217;s my assembly of ingredients ready to go. &nbsp;(Except for the salt and cornstarch, which I always have on hand).<\/p>\n<table align=\"center\" cellpadding=\"0\" cellspacing=\"0\" class=\"tr-caption-container\" style=\"margin-left: auto; you don&#8217;t need a lot of it&#8230;<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>So when you peel the back of the card, I&#8217;m greeted with 6 individually wrapped packets of spice, marked with the type of spice and amount. &nbsp;I ordinarily would whine about the amount of packaging here, but there&#8217;s some utility to have the packaging this way just in case you choose not to use all the spices and you want to store it for later.<\/p>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both;
