After all, we left for the vacation exactly two months ago.<\/p>\n<p>As usual with my lapses in writing, real life started to get in the way. I really truly want to write about these adventures while everything was still fresh in my mind. Here&#8217;s hoping it still is.<\/p>\n<p>We took a week at the end of June and beginning of July and headed west. There were several places we wanted to visit on the trip and it was tough to prioritize things. We were able to visit four national parks, see several great sights on our drives, and even ride on a tourist railroad.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>I plan to continue numbering our Colorado adventure even though I snuck in that Color Run post somewhat out of order. So let&#8217;s see how much writing I can accomplish this holiday weekend, shall we?<\/p>\n<p>The first day of our trip was a nice drive across Colorado to Durango. We traveled through\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/mapsengine.google.com\/map\/edit?mid=z8nl1wQxlEcg.k9cygLaZaih0\">Ca\u00f1on City, Salida, Gunnison, Montrose, Ouray, Ridgeway, and Silverton<\/a>. This is a nice drive, but the road we needed to take to Durango ascends up those mountains in front of us. That is the northern end of the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/U.S._Route_550\">Million Dollar Highway<\/a>.<\/p><\/div>\n<div id=\"attachment_3310\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/thevollmerfamily.com\/MajorMom\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/DSC_1380.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3310\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-3310 size-large\" src=\"http:\/\/thevollmerfamily.com\/MajorMom\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/DSC_1380-1024x678.jpg\" alt=\"DSC_1380\" width=\"630\" height=\"417\" srcset=\"http:\/\/thevollmerfamily.com\/MajorMom\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/DSC_1380-1024x678.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/thevollmerfamily.com\/MajorMom\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/DSC_1380-300x198.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 630px) 100vw, 630px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-3310\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">It takes about 1 1\/2 hours to travel the 25 miles on US 550 between Silverton and Durango.
