{"id":1363,"date":"2012-08-22T08:47:54","date_gmt":"2012-08-22T13:47:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thevollmerfamily.com\/MajorMom\/?p=1363"},"modified":"2012-08-28T22:15:04","modified_gmt":"2012-08-29T03:15:04","slug":"a-fun-seashell-activity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/thevollmerfamily.com\/MajorMom\/2012\/08\/a-fun-seashell-activity.html","title":{"rendered":"A Fun Seashell Activity"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Our family likes to go to the beach on weekends. \u00a0It&#8217;s Dave&#8217;s and my little indulgence on Sunday mornings these days: we head out around 10am and come home in time for a late lunch around 1pm.<\/p>\n<p>You never know how the Gulf is going to behave on a given trip to the beach. \u00a0Sometimes there&#8217;s a ton of seaweed, sometimes there are jellyfish, sometimes the water is really deep at our favorite spot, sometimes it&#8217;s really shallow.<\/p>\n<p>On our last trip, two weekends ago, the seashells were out in force and we enjoyed collecting several.<\/p>\n<p>The kids have brought home buckets full of small seashells before, and they&#8217;ve mainly sat in our garage awaiting an idea. \u00a0This time the kids begged me to help them do something more fruitful than have them sit in the garage.<\/p>\n<p>So I offered to buy the kids a vase and they could fill the vase with the shells. \u00a0I went to Walmart and took a look at the glass vases in the craft\/candles section and thought to myself &#8220;That&#8217;s going to take forever&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>I found a hurricane glass and chose a sand-colored candle to add to the glass. \u00a0The kids filled the hurricane glass with the shells and it now sits in the bathroom to match their surf-shop bathroom look.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1364\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/thevollmerfamily.com\/MajorMom\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/IMG_4297.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1364\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-large wp-image-1364\" title=\"IMG_4297\" src=\"http:\/\/thevollmerfamily.com\/MajorMom\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/IMG_4297-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"630\" height=\"472\" srcset=\"http:\/\/thevollmerfamily.com\/MajorMom\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/IMG_4297-1024x768.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/thevollmerfamily.com\/MajorMom\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/IMG_4297-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 630px) 100vw, 630px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1364\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">First we washed the shells and sat them out in the sun to dry.<\/p><\/div>\n<div id=\"attachment_1366\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1366\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-large wp-image-1366\" title=\"DSC_0067\" src=\"http:\/\/thevollmerfamily.com\/MajorMom\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/DSC_0067-1024x678.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"630\" height=\"417\" srcset=\"http:\/\/thevollmerfamily.com\/MajorMom\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/DSC_0067-1024x678.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/thevollmerfamily.com\/MajorMom\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/DSC_0067-300x198.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 630px) 100vw, 630px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1366\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Then the kids simply placed the shells in the glass around the candle&#8230;largest shells first, then they filled in the spaces with the smaller shells.<\/p><\/div>\n<div id=\"attachment_1367\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/thevollmerfamily.com\/MajorMom\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/DSC_0072.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1367\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-large wp-image-1367\" title=\"DSC_0072\" src=\"http:\/\/thevollmerfamily.com\/MajorMom\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/DSC_0072-1024x678.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"630\" height=\"417\" srcset=\"http:\/\/thevollmerfamily.com\/MajorMom\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/DSC_0072-1024x678.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/thevollmerfamily.com\/MajorMom\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/DSC_0072-300x198.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 630px) 100vw, 630px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1367\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">We worked hard to make sure the shells dropped down with the &#8220;pretty side&#8221; We only used about 2\/3 of the shells and the boys want to do this again.
